The problem
Spring bedding has a shelf life of weeks. Order too much and it goes on the compost heap; too little and customers go elsewhere on the first sunny weekend. A garden center buying about $10,640£8,000€9,520A$15,360C$15,040 of bedding over a 3-month season and binning 10% loses $1,064£800€952A$1,536C$1,504 a season, about $355£267€318A$513C$502 a month.
What the AI does
Export last spring's item sales by week from your till and paste them into Google Sheets with what was delivered. Click Ask Gemini and ask for a pivot table of units sold by line and week, against units delivered, with a chart. Google says Gemini in Sheets can create tables, formulas, pivot tables and charts. You then set this year's orders by week. On a business account it needs Google Workspace Business Standard (about $16£12€14A$23C$23 per user a month).

How to set it up
- Use Google Workspace Business Standard (€13.60, about $16£12€14A$23C$23 per user a month on a one-year commitment) for the manager's account.
- Export last spring's item sales by week from your till, and list deliveries by line and week from your supplier invoices.
- Paste both into a Google Sheet, click Ask Gemini and ask: 'Make a pivot table of units sold and delivered by line and week, show the difference, and chart the 10 lines with most left over.'
- Check two lines against the till by hand.
- Set this year's order by week, keep a small top-up order with the supplier for warm weekends, and repeat the check after the season.
What goes wrong
- Last spring's weather isn't this spring's. A cold April moves sales later; use the plan as a starting point.
- Till data shows sales, not lost sales. If a line sold out early, demand was higher.
- If Gemini builds a formula wrongly, the whole plan is wrong. Check a sample by hand.
- Business Starter (about $8£6€7A$12C$11) doesn't include Gemini in Sheets. On a personal Google account, Google AI Pro ($25.26£18.99€22.60A$36.46C$35.70 a month) does.
