The problem
People locked out search for a locksmith near them and pick from the map, often by star rating and how recent the reviews are. A genuine local locksmith with 9 reviews, the newest from last year, looks less trustworthy than it is. If more reviews won 2 extra jobs a month at $126£95€113A$182C$179 that's $253£190€226A$365C$357 a month of work.
What the AI does
ServiceM8 can automatically email or text customers asking for feedback after a job is completed; its pricing page lists this on every plan. Add your Google review link to that message, if the settings allow, so customers can review you in a couple of taps while they're still relieved to be back inside. Reply to every review from your free Google Business Profile, and keep its service area, hours and out-of-hours number accurate.
A worked example
A sole-trader locksmith in Ipswich does about 40 jobs a month in ServiceM8 Starter ($33£25€30A$48C$47 a month excluding VAT). They turn on feedback requests after each completed job, add their Google review link and reply to new reviews every Sunday evening.
Before
9 Google reviews, the newest from last year
After
4 to 6 new reviews a month, and 2 extra jobs a month from people who found them on the map
What it's worth
About $126£95€113A$182C$179 a month in profit, at an assumed 50% margin on $253£190€226A$365C$357 of extra work from 2 more $126£95€113A$182C$179 jobs a month. That is against $33£25€30A$48C$47 for ServiceM8 Starter, or nothing extra if jobs already run in ServiceM8.
How to set it up
- Check your Google Business Profile: the business name exactly as on your van, service area, hours and a photo of you and the van.
- Copy your review link from the profile.
- Turn on ServiceM8's automated feedback request after job completion and check its wording in the settings.
- Mark jobs complete before you leave, so the request arrives while the customer is still grateful.
- Reply to every review, good or bad, within a week.
What goes wrong
- Don't offer discounts for reviews or ask only the customers you know were happy; Google's review policies don't allow incentives.
- Don't add keywords or extra town names to your business name on Google to rank higher. Use the name on your van and paperwork.
- Texts come out of the plan's SMS allowance (100 a month on Starter, then 5p each), so use email where you have it.
- Answer a bad review about price calmly, with the price that was agreed on the phone.
