Rank salon automation ideas by impact and by how easy the data is to reach
A multi-store salon operator listed 9 tasks for Claude Code. The first one built, auto-updating hairstyle posts, wasn't on the list. Login and API blocks stalled the sales check.
A salon business with several stores listed 9 tasks to automate with Claude Code in August: monthly KPIs, store manager meeting materials, anomaly checks, results per colleague, recruitment, job media, expenses, management reports and next month's to-do list. Numbers came first because a September count put aggregation, accounting and ordering at 20 of the 35 hours a month the owner could measure. The first numbers task was a 9:00 PM daily check of the SALON BOARD booking system against Google Sheets, to find stores that forgot to enter sales. Three methods were considered (Claude Cowork, ChatGPT browser operation, driving the SALON BOARD screen directly). Five obstacles appeared: login, two-factor authentication, screen changes, no API, and the difficulty of full automation. What moved first was a Playwright script that updates hairstyle postings on SALON BOARD. It reads target stores from a config file, opens a dedicated Chrome, checks the login, asks a human to log in if needed, and aborts after a time limit.
How it went
The sales check was not implemented. The hairstyle posting automation did move forward, because it repeats a fixed procedure on a fixed screen and leaves the login to a human. The author's lesson: an AI being able to operate a screen is not the same as running unattended and stable every day. The next ranking will use two criteria: monthly hours saved, and how open the data entrance is. A PDF-drop workflow for weekly and monthly analysis was planned in September, but the automatic SALON BOARD data import has been stopped since September by Google Drive and permission errors.
Worth knowing
No time saved is reported for the hairstyle automation; the author says time spent on media updates still hasn't been measured. The record doesn't say why that task was picked first. It is not stated how far the analysis flow works. Browser automation of a booking system can break when the screen changes, and may sit uneasily with the service's terms, so check those first.
Try it yourself
Paste into ChatGPT, Claude or another AI assistant and fill in the square brackets.
I run [number] [type of business] locations. Here are [number] tasks I want to automate: [list tasks]. For each one, estimate hours per month saved, then answer: where does the data come from, is a login or two-factor code needed, is there an API or export, and does it follow the same steps every day? Rank them on two scores, impact and how open the entrance is. Suggest which one to start with, and for any high-impact task with a blocked entrance, suggest a way to build an entrance, such as a human dropping a file in a folder. Give me the table and your reasoning for me to review before I commit to anything.
