The problem
A nail surgery slot is long and hard to fill at short notice. If a podiatrist books 8 nail surgeries a month at $399£300€357A$576C$564 and 1 patient doesn't turn up, that's $399£300€357A$576C$564 a month of clinic time lost.
What the AI does
Zanda's client portal lets patients register, book and pay for appointments online, with card payments through Stripe. You offer nail surgery only after an assessment visit and ask for payment when the patient books it. Your own cancellation policy says what happens if they cancel late. The podiatrist still checks suitability, medicines and consent at the assessment and again on the day.
A worked example
A podiatrist in Swansea does about 8 nail surgeries a month at $399£300€357A$576C$564 and has about 1 no-show a month. After each assessment, the patient gets a link to book and pay through the Zanda portal.
Before
About 1 no-show a month on a $399£300€357A$576C$564 nail surgery slot
After
Patients have paid up front, and no-shows fall to about 1 every three months
What it's worth
About $186£140€167A$269C$263 a month in profit, at an assumed 70% margin on $266£200€238A$384C$376 of nail surgery fees no longer lost (two thirds of one $399£300€357A$576C$564 no-show a month). Costs are Zanda Starter at $20£15€18A$29C$28 a month plus Stripe's 1.5% + 20p a card payment, about $51£38€45A$73C$71 on 8 payments of $399£300€357A$576C$564.
How to set it up
- Check Zanda's UK pricing page for the current card fees: 1.5% + 20p for domestic cards, plus a 50p Stripe Connect fee.
- Connect Stripe to Zanda and set up nail surgery as an appointment type offered only after an assessment.
- Write a clear cancellation and refund policy and show it before patients pay.
- At the assessment, check suitability, medicines and consent, then send the booking link.
- On the day, confirm consent and medical history again before you start.
What goes wrong
- Payment doesn't replace the clinical checks. A patient who has paid still needs assessing on the day, and you refund if surgery isn't right for them.
- Keeping the full fee for a missed appointment can be unfair under consumer law if the policy wasn't clear. State it plainly before payment.
- Card fees come off every payment, about $6.25£4.70€5.59A$9.02C$8.84 on each $399£300€357A$576C$564 booking, whether or not the patient would have turned up.
- Zanda's page doesn't explain what the 50p Stripe Connect fee is charged on. Check before budgeting.
