The problem
Notes for a diabetic foot check or a biomechanical assessment are long, and writing them freehand at the end of the day leaves gaps. If a podiatrist sees 35 patients a week and each note takes 6 minutes, that's 210 minutes a week, about 15 hours a month (210 x 4.3 / 60).
What the AI does
Zanda's note templates can include text fields, checkboxes, multiple choice, body charts and diagrams, and it offers dozens of pre-built clinical templates to start from. You build templates for routine nail care, diabetic foot assessment and nail surgery, with the checks you already do as tick boxes and a chart to mark corns, ulcers and nail problems. You still write the findings and the plan yourself.
A worked example
A two-room podiatry practice in Leicester with one podiatrist sees about 35 patients a week. They build three templates in Zanda Starter and finish each note before the next patient.
Before
6 minutes per note, about 15 hours a month, some finished days later
After
About 4 minutes per note, about 10 hours a month, finished on the day
What it's worth
About $301£226€269A$434C$425 a month of the podiatrist's time, at an assumed $60£45€54A$86C$85 an hour, against $20£15€18A$29C$28 for Zanda Starter. That's 2 minutes saved on each of 35 notes a week: 70 minutes x 4.3, about 5 hours.
How to set it up
- Start Zanda's trial and look through its pre-built templates for one close to your current notes.
- Build templates for routine care, diabetic foot assessment and nail surgery, with your usual checks as tick boxes.
- Add a body chart or diagram to each template so findings can be marked on the foot.
- Use them for a week, then remove fields you never fill in and add any you keep typing.
- Read each note before you save it: it must describe that visit, not the template's defaults.
What goes wrong
- Tick boxes copied from visit to visit look complete but aren't. HCPC standards expect records that reflect the care given each time.
- A template can hide a missed check, such as pulses or sensation. Put the key diabetic foot checks where you can't skip them.
- Zanda's pricing page doesn't say where UK data is hosted. Ask, and sign a data processing agreement before entering patient records.
- Moving old notes from another system takes time. Plan it outside your busiest weeks.
