The problem
HCPC registrants must keep a continuous, up-to-date record of their CPD and send a written profile if asked at renewal. Writing up 3 activities a month properly, at 30 minutes each, takes 1.5 hours a month, so it gets left until a letter arrives.
What the AI does
After a course, a journal article or a peer discussion, jot down what you did, what you learned and how it changed your practice, with no patient names or identifiable cases. Paste the notes into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and ask for a short CPD entry under those three headings. You check it's true and sounds like you, then file it in your CPD record. If HCPC asks for a profile, that is still yours to write.
A worked example
A podiatrist in Kent does about 3 CPD activities a month: an online course, a journal article and a case discussion with a colleague. They keep rough notes on their phone and turn them into entries at the end of each month.
Before
30 minutes to write up each activity: 1.5 hours a month, often put off
After
About 10 minutes to check and edit each entry: 30 minutes a month, done the same month
What it's worth
About $60£45€54A$86C$85 a month of the podiatrist's time, at an assumed $60£45€54A$86C$85 an hour: 20 minutes saved on each of 3 entries is 1 hour.
How to set it up
- Note what you did, what you learned and what you'll change, straight after each activity.
- Remove patient names, dates and anything that could identify a case before pasting.
- Ask ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini for a short CPD entry under those headings, written plainly.
- Check every sentence is true, then file the entry in your CPD record with any certificate.
- Each quarter, check your record shows a mix of activities and how they benefit patients, as HCPC's CPD standards ask.
What goes wrong
- An assistant can make learning sound grander than it was. HCPC expects your record to be accurate.
- A case discussion can identify a patient without a name, through a rare condition or a place. Keep detail general.
- If HCPC asks for a profile, write it yourself from your record; don't send an assistant's draft unread.
- Don't paste certificates or anything with personal details into a consumer plan.
