The problem
Puncture calls are urgent, and a driver who gets no answer rings the next fitter. A mobile fitter with both hands on a wheel misses about 6 calls a week. If a third of those were $160£120€143A$230C$226 call-outs, that's 2 jobs a week, about $1,370£1,030€1,226A$1,978C$1,936 a month, going to someone else.
What the AI does
Jobber's AI Receptionist, included on its Plus plan or a $29 (about $29£22€26A$42C$41) monthly add-on, answers the calls and texts you can't take. It books work using your online booking settings or takes a message, and logs each call with a summary, transcript and recording. Choose keywords, such as 'stranded', 'motorway' or 'flat', that transfer the call to you or send you a text alert. Routine work, such as two new tires next week, goes into the diary.
A worked example
A mobile tire fitter in Leeds works alone and misses calls most of the day while fitting. They use Jobber Core with the AI Receptionist add-on: urgent puncture calls are transferred or texted to them, and other jobs are booked.
Before
About 6 missed calls a week, 2 of them likely $160£120€143A$230C$226 jobs lost
After
Every call answered; about 1 of those 2 jobs a week kept
What it's worth
About $273£205€244A$394C$385 a month in profit, if 1 extra $160£120€143A$230C$226 job a week is kept ($686£516€614A$991C$970 a month at 4.3 weeks) at an assumed 40% margin. That is against about $59£44€52A$84C$83 a month: Jobber Core at $29 (about $29£22€26A$42C$41) billed yearly plus the $29 (about $29£22€26A$42C$41) AI Receptionist add-on, or about $78£59€70A$113C$111 with Core billed monthly.
How to set it up
- Sign up for Jobber Core and set your service area, working hours and job types.
- Add the AI Receptionist and forward your unanswered calls to it.
- Choose the keywords that transfer a call or text you, such as 'stranded', 'motorway' and 'flat'.
- Ring your own number from another phone and test a puncture call and a routine booking.
- Read the call summaries each evening for the first two weeks and adjust the settings.
What goes wrong
- A driver on a hard shoulder needs a person, not a booking. Make sure urgent words reach you, and tell anyone unsafe to call 999 or their breakdown cover.
- It can't check whether you have the size in stock. Have it take the size and registration, and confirm price and stock yourself.
- Jobber prices in US dollars. Check with Jobber which plans the add-on works with before you commit.
- Some callers hang up on automated answering. Call back anyone who left a number but no details.
