The problem
Personal lines clients get a renewal with a rate increase, go quiet and quietly move to another agency, often because nobody called before the renewal date. If a timely review call keeps 3 more policies a month at a $1,800£1,353€1,611A$2,598C$2,544 premium and 12% commission, that's $648£487€580A$935C$916 of annual commission a month you're losing now.
What the AI does
AgencyZoom is sales and retention software that works alongside the agency management system (AMS). On the Growth plan it adds renewal automation: sequences of emails and texts that run up to each renewal, which you can vary by carrier, policy type or lead source, plus tasks for the account manager. The sequence asks the client to book a review; a licensed agent then looks at the rate change, remarkets the policy if it makes sense and talks through any coverage change. Automated messages never quote a final premium or advise on coverage, as state department of insurance licensing rules require a licensed agent for that.
A worked example
A five-person independent agency in Tulsa writes mostly home and auto, with about 1,500 policies and about 125 renewing each month. It connects AgencyZoom to its AMS and runs a renewal sequence: an email 60 days out, a text 45 days out to clients who agreed to texts, and a task for the account manager to review any increase over 10%.
Before
Renewals handled only when a client calls, with about 3 more policies a month lost that a call could have kept
After
Every renewal gets an email, a text where consented and a review task: about 3 more policies kept a month
What it's worth
About $324£244€290A$468C$458 a month in profit, against a $159£120€142A$230C$225 to $199£150€178A$287C$281 cost. Keeping 3 more policies a month at a $1,800£1,353€1,611A$2,598C$2,544 premium and 12% commission is $648£487€580A$935C$916 a month in commission, and at an assumed 50% margin that's $324£244€290A$468C$458. Growth is $199£150€178A$287C$281 a month for up to 7 users on monthly billing; the page says annual billing is 20% cheaper, about $159£120€142A$230C$225.
How to set it up
- Start the 14-day trial on Growth; Essential at $149£112€133A$215C$211 doesn't include renewal automation or texting.
- Connect your AMS and check that renewal dates and policy types come across correctly for a sample of 20 policies.
- Write a renewal sequence for each line of business, with a link to book a review and nothing that promises a price.
- Record consent before texting: marketing texts need prior express written consent and a STOP option under the TCPA, and marketing emails need your address and an unsubscribe under CAN-SPAM.
- Have a licensed agent handle every review, remarket and coverage conversation, and note the outcome in the AMS.
What goes wrong
- AgencyZoom's page doesn't say whether texting carries message fees or 10DLC registration costs. Ask before turning texts on.
- The sequence only knows what the AMS tells it. A wrong renewal date or a missed sync means a client gets nothing, so spot-check each month's renewal list.
- Some AMS integrations may cost extra, according to the pricing page. Confirm yours before you sign up.
- Each plan includes 7 seats, and more go through sales at a price not shown.
