The problem
Every roof job needs a site-specific risk assessment: access, edge protection, fragile surfaces, weather, people below. On paper they get filled in the night before or rewritten later, and when a main contractor or the HSE asks for one, it's in a van somewhere. At 12 jobs a month and 25 minutes each including rewriting, that's 5 hours a month.
What the AI does
Powered Now's Professional plan includes compliant certificates and custom forms, and its roofing page describes completing digital risk assessments that record site-specific risks and controls. You fill the form in on site on your phone, add photos of access and edge protection, and it's stored against the job with the rest of the job's documents, ready to send when someone asks.
A worked example
A roofer in Preston and one employed roofer do about 12 jobs a month, from ridge repairs to re-roofs. They move their risk assessment onto a Powered Now form and fill it in on arrival at each job, before going up.
Before
Paper risk assessments at about 25 minutes each, some rewritten at home, 5 hours a month
After
Filled in on site at about 10 minutes each, 2 hours a month, with photos attached
What it's worth
About $140£105€125A$202C$197 a month in time saved, against $85£64€76A$123C$120 for two users on Professional. That is 3 hours a month (12 jobs, 15 minutes saved on each), at an assumed $47£35€42A$67C$66 an hour.
How to set it up
- Choose Powered Now Professional ($43£32€38A$61C$60 per user a month excluding VAT), or use Premium if you already have it.
- Set up your risk assessment as a custom form, with sections for access, edge protection, fragile surfaces, weather, public protection and emergency arrangements.
- Fill it in on site before anyone goes up, with photos of the access and edge protection.
- Review it when conditions change during the job, such as wind picking up or a fragile rooflight found.
- Send the assessment from the job when a client or main contractor asks for it.
What goes wrong
- The form is only a record. The duty under the Work at Height Regulations is to plan the work properly and use the right equipment; copying last week's answers defeats the point.
- Professional and Premium are priced per user, so check who needs their own login.
- The vendor's pages describe the feature but not the form builder in detail. Build your form during setup and check it covers everything your old paper form did.
