The problem
Bed bug, flea and cockroach treatments go wrong when the home isn't ready: bedding not washed, floors not vacuumed, cupboards full, pets still in. You either treat a home that isn't ready or come back another day. Three visits a month like that, each costing 1.5 hours of your time at $47£35€42A$67C$66 an hour, is about $213£160€190A$307C$301 a month.
What the AI does
Paste your own preparation notes for each treatment into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and ask for a one-page sheet in plain English: what to do in the days before, on the day, and after. Ask for a short text message version as well, and a version for tenants that a letting agent can forward. You check every line against your method and the product label, then send the sheet when the job is booked.
A worked example
A two-person pest control firm in Manchester treats bed bugs and fleas in rented flats and family homes. They write one preparation sheet per treatment type with an AI assistant, check them, and attach the right one to every booking confirmation.
Before
About 3 visits a month where the home isn't ready, each wasting 1.5 hours
After
About 1 a month, as customers get a clear sheet when they book
What it's worth
About $140£105€125A$202C$197 a month in time saved, from 2 fewer wasted visits a month at 1.5 hours each, at an assumed $47£35€42A$67C$66 an hour. The free plans of these assistants are enough for this.
How to set it up
- Write down, in rough notes, how customers should prepare for each treatment you do, from your own method and the product labels.
- Paste one set of notes into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and ask for a one-page preparation sheet in plain English with three headings: before, on the day, after.
- Ask for a 2-sentence text message version and a version a letting agent can forward to tenants.
- Check every line against your method and the product label, especially how long people and pets must stay out and when they can return.
- Save the checked sheets and send the right one with every booking confirmation.
What goes wrong
- Re-entry times and safety instructions come from the product label and your training, never from the AI. Correct anything it adds that you didn't give it.
- Leave customer names and addresses out of the chat; the sheet is generic and doesn't need them.
- A sheet doesn't replace a phone call for vulnerable customers who may struggle to prepare. Ring them as well.
- Review the sheets when you change products or methods, or they'll go out of date.
