Price rules and floors for Amazon sellers: Automate Pricing

Seller Central's Automate Pricing moves prices within rules and a floor you set. Priced at the £25 a month Professional plan.

At a glance

  • What it costs£25–30€29–35 a month

  • Worth, in extra profit or time saved in the worked example£40€47 a month

  • Pays for itselfWithin the month

  • Connecting two tools or some setup timeSome setup needed

Figures come from the worked example below, using its stated assumptions. Tool prices checked . How we check prices

The problem

Competitors move prices and checking by hand is slow. If a seller checks 8 highly competitive listings for 2 minutes each, twice a week, that's 32 minutes a week, about 138 minutes, 2.3 hours a month (32 x 4.3).

What the AI does

Amazon's UK seller site describes Automate Pricing in Seller Central as adjusting your prices automatically using rules you set, reacting to competitor changes and Buy Box conditions, with you setting the floor. It doesn't say which plans or categories can use it, so this is priced at Professional. Work out each product's floor from the Revenue Calculator (cost, fees and the minimum profit you'll accept), start with a few listings, and review what the rule has done every week. A person sets the floor and checks the results; the tool never decides what you can afford to sell for.

A worked example

A seller in Manchester with 20 listings of home organisers is already on the Professional plan. She sets price rules for her 8 most competitive products and reviews the changes every Friday.

Before

About 32 minutes a week checking 8 listings by hand (8 x 2 x 2): about 138 minutes, 2.3 hours a month

After

About 10 minutes a week reviewing what the rules did on those 8 listings: 10 x 4.3 = 43 minutes, 0.7 hours a month

What it's worth

About 1.6 hours a month saved (95 minutes), worth around £40 if your time is worth £25 an hour. That covers the Professional plan at £25 a month excluding VAT (about £30 with VAT), but only by about £10 to £15, so it is a thin case on time alone; it is stronger if you're on Professional anyway, or if the rules protect margin or win sales. Amazon's page doesn't say whether Automate Pricing is limited by plan; confirm in Seller Central.

How to set it up

  1. Work out each product's floor price from your cost, Amazon's fees and the minimum profit you will accept.
  2. Pick a few products to start with, not the whole catalogue.
  3. Set the rule in Seller Central's Automate Pricing with the floor, and read how it reacts to competitors.
  4. Each week, review the prices the rule set, and compare with the Revenue Calculator for margin.
  5. Keep a note of each product's floor so a price change doesn't go below it later.

What goes wrong

  • Automation can fail silently or behave unexpectedly. A floor set too low sells at a loss; a rule left alone can drift. Review weekly.
  • Price changes can start a race to the bottom with other sellers; margin matters more than the Buy Box on every product.
  • The page doesn't give plan or category eligibility; check in your account before you plan around it.
  • Fees and costs change; update your floors whenever your supplier cost or Amazon's fees change.
