The problem

Cat boarding license conditions require written owner consent before cats from the same household share a pen, and you need permission to take a cat to the vet. If a cattery checks in 60 stays a month and spends 5 minutes on each printing, signing, filing and finding paper forms, that's 300 minutes, 5 hours a month, plus forms that go missing before an inspection.

What the AI does

KennelBooker's digital waivers are signed at registration or for each booking type, on the owner's phone, your tablet or by email, and stored against the customer account. Set up one waiver for your terms, one for shared-pen consent and one for vet treatment consent. PawCheck, included in the plan, sends a link with the booking confirmation so owners sign before they arrive, and if a current waiver is already signed it doesn't ask again. The wording of each form is yours to get right.

A worked example

A 10-pen cattery in Dorset checks in about 60 stays a month, a third of them families of cats sharing a pen, with paper forms kept in a box file.

Before

60 stays x 5 minutes printing, signing and filing forms: 300 minutes, 5 hours a month

After

Signed online before arrival; about 1 minute each to check at check-in: 60 minutes, 1 hour a month

What it's worth

About $80£60€71A$115C$113 a month saved, at an assumed $20£15€18A$29C$28 an hour for 4 hours (300 minus 60 minutes). The Dachshund plan for up to 10 pens is $58.51£43.99€52.35A$84.46C$82.70 a month excluding VAT, about $70£53€63A$102C$100 with VAT, so this alone only just pays back; the same subscription also runs your bookings.

How to set it up

  1. Write three short forms: your terms, consent for cats from one household to share a pen, and consent for vet treatment, including who pays.
  2. Set them up as waivers in KennelBooker, signed at registration or per booking.
  3. Turn on PawCheck and add its placeholder to your booking confirmation email.
  4. At check-in, check the waivers show as signed before the cat goes into its pen.
  5. Keep signed records for at least 3 years, as the license conditions require.

What goes wrong

  • Cats from different households must never share a pen, whatever a form says.
  • A signature only helps if the wording is clear; have your terms checked rather than copying another cattery's.
  • If you leave KennelBooker, export signed waivers first, since records must be kept for 3 years.
  • Prices exclude VAT; add it if you can't reclaim it.
