The problem
Extras are offered by message after booking, or not at all, so guests arrive without firewood and the owner drives to the shop or misses the sale. If a 5-unit site sells only 4 firewood bundles a month when guests ask on arrival, much of what guests would happily buy at booking goes unsold.
What the AI does
Beds24's features page lists upsell add-ons, such as optional meals and bicycle hire, offered when guests book, and compulsory charges such as cleaning fees. Set up firewood bundles, a breakfast hamper or a late checkout as optional extras in your Beds24 booking engine with a clear price and description, check they show for your own-website bookings, and add them to your pre-arrival email for guests who booked elsewhere. If the hamper contains food you make up and pack yourself before the guest orders, it may count as prepacked for direct sale under Natasha's Law and need a full ingredients label with the 14 allergens emphasized; buying in labeled products avoids that.
A worked example
A 5-unit glamping site in Pembrokeshire that already takes bookings through Beds24 has about 45 bookings a month in season. It adds a $21£16€19A$31C$30 firewood bundle and a $47£35€42A$67C$66 breakfast hamper of bought-in, labeled local products as optional extras.
Before
About 4 firewood bundles a month sold on arrival, and no hampers
After
About 15 firewood bundles and 7 hampers a month: 11 extra bundles x $21£16€19A$31C$30 = $234£176€209A$338C$331 and 7 hampers x $47£35€42A$67C$66 = $326£245€292A$470C$461
What it's worth
About $247£186€221A$357C$350 a month in extra profit: 11 more firewood bundles ($234£176€209A$338C$331) at an assumed 50% margin is $117£88€105A$169C$165 and 7 hampers ($326£245€292A$470C$461) at an assumed 40% margin is $130£98€117A$188C$184. The take-up is an assumption. There's no extra cost if you already pay for Beds24; otherwise it's about €28 (about $32£24€29A$46C$45) a month for 5 units.
How to set it up
- Choose 2 or 3 extras guests actually ask for, and price them with your real costs.
- Set them up as optional extras in your Beds24 booking engine with a photo, a price and what's included.
- Make a test booking on your website to check the extras show and add to the total.
- Add the extras and a booking link to your pre-arrival email for guests who booked through other sites.
- For food, list every product and its allergen label in the description, and register with your council as a food business if you haven't.
What goes wrong
- Extras chosen on your booking engine may not carry through from Airbnb or Booking.com; those guests need the pre-arrival email offer.
- Hampers you make up and pack before sale can be prepacked for direct sale under Natasha's Law, needing a full ingredients label with allergens emphasized. A trained person checks every label.
- If you sell food, you need to register as a food business with your local council at least 28 days before you start.
- Delivering a hamper to the wrong unit or forgetting firewood harms reviews. Link extras to the day's changeover list.
