The problem
Arranging lessons by text eats evenings: thirty booking conversations a week at 3 minutes each is about 6.5 hours a month, plus 1.5 hours matching cash and bank transfers to pupils. That's 8 hours a month of admin after a full day in the car.
What the AI does
Total Drive's Online Booking (Ultimate plan, $31£23€27A$44C$43 a month including VAT) lets existing pupils book straight into your diary within the availability, locations and working hours you set, while your diary stays hidden. You can set lesson length, travel time between lessons, pre-set slots, which days are bookable and different rates by area or lesson type. Pupils with prepaid credit, such as a 10-hour block, can book against it; others pay online. The payments page says payments are matched to the pupil automatically and paid out to you the next day.
A worked example
A self-employed instructor in Norwich has 35 pupils on manual and automatic lessons and arranges every lesson by text and WhatsApp.
Before
30 booking chats a week at 3 minutes, about 6.5 hours a month, plus 1.5 hours matching payments: about 8 hours
After
Pupils book and pay in the app; about 2 hours a month on exceptions
What it's worth
About $200£150€179A$288C$282 a month of time saved, against $31£23€27A$44C$43 for Total Drive Ultimate. That's 6 hours at an assumed $33£25€30A$48C$47 an hour. Check in the app who pays card fees: the vendor says instructors receive 100% of the lesson price and that there is a set-up that is fee-free to the instructor.
How to set it up
- Upgrade to Ultimate (or Elite) and set your working hours, lunch break, lesson length and travel time.
- Choose which days and hours are open for online booking; keep the rest phone-only if you prefer.
- Set your rates, including any area or lesson-type differences and personal rates.
- Turn on in-app payments and decide whether to take payments from active pupils only.
- Tell pupils how booking works and how much notice they must give to cancel.
What goes wrong
- Online booking is for existing pupils; new inquiries still come through you.
- If your diary isn't up to date, pupils can book over personal commitments; add unavailability as soon as you know it.
- Block-booking credit is money you owe in lessons; keep your refund terms for unused hours clear.
