The problem
The therapy agreement gets printed, signed in the first session and scanned, or emailed as a PDF that comes back weeks later or not at all. If 5 new clients a month each take 20 minutes of printing, chasing and filing, that's 100 minutes a month, and some agreements are never signed.
What the AI does
Legalesign sends documents for signing, tracks them and keeps an audit log. You upload your standard agreement, covering fees, cancellations, confidentiality and its limits, and contact between sessions, and send it to each new client before the first session. They sign on their phone and you keep the signed copy. The agreement holds no clinical information, and you still go through it together in the first session.
A worked example
A counselor in Cardiff takes on about 5 new clients a month. They send their agreement through Legalesign after the intro call, paying as they go or on Solo Basic.
Before
20 minutes per agreement printing, chasing and filing: 100 minutes a month
After
About 5 minutes per agreement to send and file: 25 minutes a month
What it's worth
About $74£56€67A$108C$105 a month of the counselor's time, at an assumed $60£45€54A$86C$85 an hour, against about $11£8€10A$15C$15 to $13£10€12A$19C$19 for Legalesign. That's 15 minutes saved on each of 5 agreements, 75 minutes; Pay As You Go is 5 x $2£1.50€1.79A$2.88C$2.82, or Solo Basic is $13£10€12A$19C$19 a month.
How to set it up
- Check Legalesign's prices: Pay As You Go is $2£1.50€1.79A$2.88C$2.82 per document sent, and Solo Basic is $13£10€12A$19C$19 a month with fair use of 20 documents, excluding VAT.
- Have your agreement checked against your professional body's ethical framework and your insurer's requirements before you upload it.
- Set it up as a template and send it to each new client after the intro call.
- Go through the agreement together in the first session, especially confidentiality and its limits.
- File the signed copy in the client's record and note any changes you agree later.
What goes wrong
- Signed isn't the same as understood. Contracting is part of the work, so talk it through.
- Keep clinical information out of the agreement. An assessment form is health data and belongs in your practice system, not an e-signature account.
- Legalesign's page is inconsistent about reminders on the lower plans. Check before relying on automatic chasing.
- Signed agreements are personal data. Decide how long they stay in Legalesign and put that in your records policy.
