The problem
Prescribers write up every consultation by hand after the patient leaves: medical history discussed, risks explained, what was agreed. At about 10 minutes for each of 30 consultations a month, that's 5 hours a month, often at the end of a long clinic day when details blur.
What the AI does
Heidi is an AI medical scribe for clinicians: it transcribes the consultation and drafts notes from templates for the clinician to review. Its UK pricing page lists Scribe Plus at $60£45€54A$86C$85 a user a month billed yearly, or $80£60€71A$115C$113 monthly, with advanced templates; the free plan has standard templates. With the patient's agreement to recording, start Heidi at the beginning of the consultation, then read, correct and finalize the draft before it goes into the patient record. The prescriber is responsible for every word: the note records their consultation, and AI never gives the patient advice, decides on suitability or takes consent.
A worked example
A nurse prescriber running a two-room aesthetics clinic in Guildford sees about 30 consultations a month. They set up a Heidi template matching their consultation structure, ask each patient whether they agree to the consultation being recorded for note-taking, and review every draft before copying it into the clinic record.
Before
About 10 minutes writing up each of 30 consultations a month
After
About 4 minutes reviewing and correcting each Heidi draft, saving about 3 hours a month
What it's worth
About $200£150€179A$288C$282 a month in prescriber time saved: 6 minutes saved on each of 30 consultations is 3 hours, worth $200£150€179A$288C$282 at $67£50€60A$96C$94 an hour. That is against Heidi Scribe Plus at $60£45€54A$86C$85 a month billed yearly, or $80£60€71A$115C$113 monthly, for one prescriber.
How to set it up
- Read Heidi's UK GDPR and UK compliance pages and its data terms, and record the decision in your data protection records.
- Build a template that follows your consultation: history, medicines, allergies, previous treatments, risks discussed, agreed plan.
- Ask every patient whether they agree to the consultation being recorded for note-taking, and note their answer; offer to write notes by hand if they say no.
- Review and correct every draft before it goes into the patient record; check product names, doses, units and areas treated word by word.
- Audit a sample of notes each month against what was actually said.
What goes wrong
- AI can mishear product names, units and doses. A wrong number in a record is the prescriber's responsibility under their regulator: GMC, NMC, GDC or GPhC.
- Consultation recordings are special category health data under UK GDPR. Use a paid plan with clear data terms, tell patients in your privacy notice and never use a personal account.
- Heidi drafts the record; it doesn't replace the face-to-face consultation, consent conversation or the prescriber's judgment on suitability.
