The problem

Which lender takes a one-year-old company buying a used tipper, or a sector others won't touch, lives in emails, BDM notes and memory. If you place 10 deals a month and finding the right lenders for each takes 30 minutes of digging and phone calls, that's 5 hours a month.

What the AI does

Keep one Notion page per lender with its appetite, minimum trading time, sectors, deal sizes, deposit rules, BDM contact and the date you last checked it. On Notion's Business plan, Notion Agent and Enterprise Search let you ask questions such as 'which lenders take start-ups for used vehicles' and get answers drawn from your own pages. You then confirm the shortlist against each lender's current criteria before you submit anything.

A worked example

A two-broker firm in Bolton uses about 25 lenders. Both brokers move their notes into Notion Business, one page per lender, and ask Notion AI for a shortlist at the start of each new deal.

Before

30 minutes searching emails and notes for each of 10 deals: 5 hours a month

After

About 10 minutes to ask, check the pages and confirm with the lender: about 1.7 hours a month

What it's worth

About $177£133€158A$255C$250 a month in broker time, against $40£30€36A$58C$56 to $48£36€43A$69C$68 for Notion. That is 20 minutes saved on each of 10 deals, 200 minutes or 3.3 hours, at an assumed $53£40€48A$77C$75 an hour. Business is US$20 (about $20£15€18A$29C$28) per member a month billed yearly or US$24 (about $24£18€21A$35C$34) monthly, so 2 brokers cost about $40£30€36A$58C$56 or $48£36€43A$69C$68.

How to set it up

  1. Create one Notion page per lender using the same headings, with a 'last checked' date.
  2. Move your existing notes and BDM emails into the pages; leave out client names and details.
  3. Upgrade to Business, since Free and Plus only include a limited trial of Notion AI.
  4. Ask for a shortlist at the start of each deal, open the pages it draws from and check them.
  5. Update a lender's page whenever a BDM tells you criteria have changed.

What goes wrong

  • Notion AI only knows what's in your pages. Out-of-date notes give out-of-date answers, so confirm current criteria with the lender before submitting.
  • AI answers can blend two lenders or miss a condition. Read the source pages before you tell a client anything.
  • Keep client data out of the lender pages; Business keeps data with AI providers for 30 days, and zero retention is Enterprise only.
  • Business is priced per member and in dollars, so each extra broker adds about $20£15€18A$29C$28 to $24£18€21A$35C$34 a month.
