The problem
Most retail roof proposals go out with one price, usually the cheapest system, because building three versions takes too long. Homeowners who would have paid for a better shingle or a full ice and water shield never get asked. On 20 proposals a month, if 1 or 2 homeowners would choose an option worth $2,500£1,880€2,237A$3,609C$3,534 more on a $13,000£9,774€11,632A$18,767C$18,376 job, that's $2,500£1,880€2,237A$3,609C$3,534 to $5,000£3,759€4,474A$7,218C$7,068 of work a month left on the table.
What the AI does
Roofr builds proposals from its roof measurement reports and lets you set your own pricing. Proposals can hold several options the homeowner picks from when they sign, and templates support good, better and best pricing and upgrades. You can add photos, including from CompanyCam, and notes on the work, and the homeowner e-signs on their own device and can pay a deposit online by card or ACH. Essentials and Scale include unlimited proposals and e-signatures; the free plan has 10 trial proposals.
A worked example
A three-person roofing company in Charlotte, North Carolina sends about 20 retail replacement proposals a month after inspections, each with one price. They move to Roofr Essentials, order a measurement report for each roof and send every proposal with three options: architectural shingles, an impact-resistant upgrade, and the upgrade with full ice and water shield and new ventilation.
Before
20 proposals a month with one price each, built in a spreadsheet in the evening
After
Three options with photos on every proposal; 1 to 2 homeowners a month choose an option worth $2,500£1,880€2,237A$3,609C$3,534 more
What it's worth
About $750£564€671A$1,083C$1,060 to $1,500£1,128€1,342A$2,165C$2,120 a month in profit, at an assumed 30% margin on $2,500£1,880€2,237A$3,609C$3,534 to $5,000£3,759€4,474A$7,218C$7,068 of extra work (1 or 2 homeowners a month picking an option worth $2,500£1,880€2,237A$3,609C$3,534 more). That is against $209£157€187A$302C$295 a month for Roofr Essentials billed yearly ($249£187€223A$359C$352 monthly), plus 20 measurement reports at $13£10€12A$19C$18 each, $260£195€233A$375C$368 a month.
How to set it up
- Start on Roofr Essentials ($209£157€187A$302C$295 a month billed yearly, $249£187€223A$359C$352 monthly), the first plan with unlimited proposals, for unlimited users.
- Build a good, better and best template for your two or three most common roof types, with materials, warranty and what each option includes written in plain words.
- Add your company name, address and contractor license number to the template wherever your state or city requires it on contracts and proposals.
- After each inspection, order the measurement report, add your photos of the damage or wear, and check every quantity and price yourself before the proposal goes out.
- Send it the same day, and after two months look at which options homeowners picked and adjust the template.
What goes wrong
- A measurement report can be wrong on a complex roof. A person checks quantities and prices on every proposal; never send one straight from the report.
- Reports cost $13£10€12A$19C$18 each on Essentials and add up: 20 a month is $260£195€233A$375C$368 more than the plan itself. Measure yourself on simple roofs if that's cheaper.
- Options must be honest. If the cheapest option won't fix the problem, say so, or it comes back as a callback and a bad review.
- Insurance jobs follow the adjuster's scope. Keep good-better-best for retail work and for upgrades the homeowner pays for themselves.
