The problem
Copying each address into a courier site and then marking the order dispatched on Etsy is slow. If a maker sends 80 orders a month and each takes 4 minutes, that's 320 minutes, 5.3 hours a month.
What the AI does
Etsy's UK help page says sellers in the UK can buy Royal Mail and Evri postage labels in Shop Manager. From an order, you check both addresses, enter the package details (which you can save as a preset for next time), choose a delivery service and buy the label. Etsy then sends the buyer a dispatch notification and marks the order complete, and you print the label at home. Etsy says this gives access to some postage discounts and that you can request refunds for unused, unscanned labels. Compare the price shown with what you pay now before switching everything.
A worked example
A maker of ceramic mugs in Bristol sends about 80 orders a month and buys labels in Etsy instead of on a courier website.
Before
About 4 minutes an order between the courier site and Etsy: 80 x 4 = 320 minutes, 5.3 hours a month
After
About 1.5 minutes an order buying the label in Etsy with a saved preset: 80 x 1.5 = 120 minutes, 2 hours a month
What it's worth
About 3.3 hours a month saved (200 minutes), worth around $67£50€60A$96C$94 if your time is worth $20£15€18A$29C$28 an hour. Buying labels on Etsy has no subscription; you pay the postage, as you do now. Any postage discount isn't counted.
How to set it up
- Open an order in Shop Manager and start the postage label set-up if Etsy asks.
- Save a delivery preset for each box size you use, with weight and dimensions.
- Compare the Royal Mail and Evri prices shown with what you pay now.
- Buy labels for a week's orders this way and check each label before sticking it on.
- Request refunds for any label you bought and didn't use.
What goes wrong
- Etsy has suspended Evri labels to the US; UK sellers use Royal Mail Delivered Duty Paid labels for US orders, so check US pricing and duties.
- International labels need accurate customs descriptions and values; you're responsible for them.
- The buyer is told the order has dispatched as soon as you buy the label, so only buy it when the parcel is ready to go.
- Labels expire if unused within the carrier's time frame; refund them rather than reusing.
