The problem
New foods, treats and toys arrive every month, and each needs a shelf label and, if you sell online, a product description. If a shop adds 30 new products a month at 12 minutes each to write, that's 360 minutes, 6 hours a month.
What the AI does
Copy the supplier's product details (name, pack size, life stage, ingredients as printed, price) and paste them into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Ask for a 25-word shelf label and a 100-word product description in your shop's tone, using only the facts given. Check every claim against the pack before it goes on the shelf or online. Pet food labeling has legal rules, so any claim about health stays exactly as the manufacturer states it, or is left out.
A worked example
A pet shop in Hexham adds about 30 new foods, treats and toys a month and writes labels and online descriptions in the evenings.
Before
30 products x 12 minutes: 360 minutes, 6 hours a month
After
About 4 minutes each to paste, check and fix: 120 minutes, 2 hours a month
What it's worth
About $80£60€71A$115C$113 a month saved, at an assumed $20£15€18A$29C$28 an hour for 4 hours (360 minus 120 minutes). The free plans of ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can do this; paid plans are up to about $27£20€24A$38C$38 a month for one person.
How to set it up
- Copy the supplier's details for each new line: name, pack size, life stage, ingredients as printed and your price.
- Paste them into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and ask for a 25-word shelf label and a 100-word description using only those facts.
- Check every claim against the pack and delete anything that isn't on it.
- Save the prompt with your shop's tone so every label reads the same way.
- Print labels in batches and paste the descriptions into your online shop.
What goes wrong
- An assistant may add health claims such as 'supports joints' that aren't on the pack. Delete them; pet food claims have legal rules.
- Ingredients and analytical details must match the pack exactly; copy them, don't let the assistant reword them.
- Free plans have usage limits; batch your products.
