The problem
A pet shop sells a puppy's first food, then the owner switches to adult food at the supermarket and the shop never sees them again. If 20 new puppy and kitten owners sign up a month and 4 of them would buy their adult food from you after a reminder, at $60£45€54A$86C$85 a bag every 6 weeks, that's about $172£129€154A$248C$243 a month of sales from each month's group.
What the AI does
Brevo is an email marketing tool with sign-up forms, contact segments and an AI tool for drafting email copy. Ask new puppy and kitten owners at the till or on a sign-up form if they'd like emails, and record the pet type and birth month. Each month, pick out the pets reaching adult age and send a short email inviting their owners in to talk about adult food. The choice of food is the owner's, with their vet's advice where a pet has a health condition; the email only invites them in.
A worked example
A pet shop in Stafford sells puppy and kitten food to about 20 new owners a month, and few come back for adult food.
Before
No follow-up; most of the 20 new owners a month buy adult food elsewhere
After
Each month's group gets one email; if 4 of 20 buy adult food here at $60£45€54A$86C$85 every 6 weeks: about $172£129€154A$248C$243 a month
What it's worth
About $43£32€38A$61C$60 a month in profit from each month's group of owners, at an assumed 25% margin on about $172£129€154A$248C$243 of food sales (4 owners x $60£45€54A$86C$85 every 6 weeks is $40£30€36A$58C$56 a week, times 4.3). Brevo's free plan sends up to 300 emails a day once approved, which covers this; Standard at $17£13€15A$25C$24 a month removes the Brevo logo.
How to set it up
- Make a short sign-up form or till card asking for email, pet type, pet's name and birth month, with a clear tick box for emails.
- Create a free Brevo account and import only people who opted in, with those details as contact fields.
- Each month, pick out pets reaching adult age and write one short email inviting their owners in.
- Use Brevo's AI drafting if it helps, then check every word yourself.
- Track who comes in with the email over 3 months.
What goes wrong
- Email only people who agreed; PECR rules on marketing emails apply.
- Don't give feeding advice by email for pets with health conditions; send those owners to their vet.
- The free plan shows the Brevo logo; Standard at $17£13€15A$25C$24 a month removes it.
- Each month's group adds to the last, so the value builds over time, but only if the emails keep going out.
