The problem
Selling seats for the school play and concerts by reply slip and cash means counting money, chasing slips and handling double bookings. Four ticketed events a year with 1,200 tickets at 1.5 minutes each is 30 hours a year, about 2.5 hours a month.
What the AI does
Ticket Tailor sells tickets from your own box office page, with reserved seating and a free check-in app, and payments go into your own Stripe, PayPal or Square account. There's no monthly fee: pay as you go is 60p per paid ticket plus VAT, free tickets cost nothing up to 5,000 a year, and reserved seats use an extra credit per seat. You can add a booking fee so buyers cover the fees.
A worked example
A small independent school in Hampshire sells about 1,200 tickets a year for 2 plays and 2 concerts, at $11£8€10A$15C$15 each, by reply slip and cash.
Before
1,200 tickets at 1.5 minutes: 30 hours a year, about 2.5 hours a month
After
Online sales and check-in; about 1 hour per event to set up: 4 hours a year, about 0.3 hours a month
What it's worth
About $59£44€52A$84C$83 a month of office time saved. That's 2.2 hours a month at an assumed $27£20€24A$38C$38 an hour. Ticket fees are 1,200 x 60p = $958£720€857A$1,382C$1,354 a year, $80£60€71A$115C$113 a month plus VAT, more than the time saved, so add a booking fee to pass them on (which brings the school's cost close to $0£0€0A$0C$0) or buy prepaid credits, which the page lists from 22p a ticket.
How to set it up
- Create a Ticket Tailor account and connect the school's Stripe, PayPal or Square account.
- Set up each performance with its seating plan or general admission, price and booking fee.
- Send the box office link to parents and staff, and put it on the website.
- Download the free check-in app and scan tickets at the door.
- Offer a phone number for families who can't book online.
What goes wrong
- Reserved seating uses an extra credit per seat, which doubles the fee on reserved tickets.
- Card processing fees from Stripe, PayPal or Square are separate from Ticket Tailor's fee.
- Don't publish a cast list with pupils' full names on the public box office page.
- Filming and photography rules for performances belong in your parent communications; tickets don't replace consent.
