The problem
Used car buyers read reviews before they drive to a dealer they don't know. Happy buyers rarely leave one unless asked, and asking by hand gets forgotten on a busy Saturday. A dealer selling 15 cars a month who never asks might get 1 review a month, while the one unhappy buyer always finds the page.
What the AI does
MotorDesk's automated follow-ups send an email or SMS at points you choose, such as when a vehicle is sold or an invoice is paid. Set one up for every sale that thanks the buyer and includes the review link or QR code that Google Business Profile lets you create. Google's rules say reviews must reflect a genuine experience and you mustn't offer anything in return, so ask every buyer the same way. Reply to reviews, good and bad, from your Business Profile.
A worked example
A 25-car dealer in Swindon sells about 15 cars a month and has 40 Google reviews, most of them old. On MotorDesk Growth they set an automated message for every completed sale with the Google review link, and print the QR code in the handover pack.
Before
About 1 new review a month, the latest 6 months old
After
If 1 buyer in 5 responds: about 3 new reviews a month
What it's worth
About $599£450€536A$864C$846 a month in profit, if fresher reviews win 1 extra sale every 2 months (an assumption, not a promise) at an assumed $1,197£900€1,071A$1,728C$1,692 profit per car. That is against $198£149€177A$286C$280 a month plus VAT for MotorDesk Growth, which the dealer also uses for stock and invoicing; Google Business Profile is free.
How to set it up
- Claim or check your Google Business Profile, then create your review link and QR code from it.
- In MotorDesk, set up an automated email or SMS sent when a vehicle is sold, with a short thank-you and the link.
- Send it to every buyer, and put the QR code in the handover pack as well.
- Reply to every review from your Business Profile, and take complaints offline by phone.
- Each month, compare new reviews with cars sold.
What goes wrong
- Offering a free valet, a discount or anything else for a review breaks Google's rules, and UK consumer law bans fake reviews and hiding incentivized ones. Ask everyone; offer nothing.
- Sending the request only to buyers you think were happy is selective and misleading. Send the same message to every buyer.
- Texts cost about 2p each plus about 85p a month through Bird; email costs nothing extra.
- Don't argue with a bad review in public. Reply calmly, once, and invite the buyer to call.
