Ask plain-English questions of your sales data in a sandwich shop
A New York sandwich shop owner asks Square AI about sales and repeat customers, and says it found that Fridays beat Thursdays and helped him thank top spenders.
The owner types ordinary questions into Square AI: best sales days, day-by-day takings, repeat customers with more than three visits, top spenders and best-selling merchandise. He also asked how to deactivate an employee on the system.
How it went
He says Fridays often outsold Thursdays, against his expectation; that strong hat sales backed his move to a new design; and that an answer which took him about three hours to find came almost at once.
Worth knowing
The shop was paid by Square to take part and the account is promotional, with no hard performance figures. It is a US business with US data. The answers are only as good as the sales data held in Square, and are worth a spot check before changing prices or staffing.
Try it yourself
Paste into ChatGPT, Claude or another AI assistant and fill in the square brackets.
Here are my sales figures for [period] from [till system]. Tell me my best and worst days, my top [number] products, and what changed compared with [previous period]. Then suggest [number] small changes to staffing or stock and say which are backed by the data and which are guesses. Show me your working before I act on any of it.
