The problem
Electrical certificates often get finished at night: test results on a pad, then typed into software or a template later. If a two-person firm issues 25 certificates a month and spends 20 minutes on each after the job, that's over 8 hours a month (25 × 20 = 500 minutes), and certificates reach landlords days late.
What the AI does
Powered Now's Professional plan includes compliant electrical certificates (its help center lists the EIC, EICR, minor works and EV charge point installation certificates), with on-site customer and engineer signatures and unlimited email from the app. The pricing page lists A4:2026 electrical certificates and EICR as new. Results go into the certificate on a tablet at the board, and the customer or agent has it before you leave.
A worked example
A two-electrician firm in Sheffield issues about 25 certificates a month, mostly EICRs for landlords and minor works certificates. Both electricians use Powered Now Professional ($43£32€38A$61C$60 per user a month, $85£64€76A$123C$120 in total, excluding VAT) and complete certificates on a tablet while testing.
Before
Certificates written up in the evening, about 20 minutes each, often sent days later
After
Certificates completed during testing and sent the same day, about 5 minutes each to finish
What it's worth
About $333£250€298A$480C$470 a month of time saved, from 15 minutes less on each of 25 certificates (6.25 hours) at $53£40€48A$77C$75 an hour. That is against $85£64€76A$123C$120 a month for two Powered Now Professional users.
How to set it up
- Check with your registration body, such as NICEIC or NAPIT, that certificates from Powered Now meet its requirements.
- Choose Professional or Premium; the Business plan doesn't include certificates.
- Set up your registration details and a login and signature for each electrician.
- Fill in a test EICR from a recent job and compare it field by field with your current certificate.
- Complete certificates at the board while testing, sign on site and email them before you leave.
- Put each EICR's next inspection date in your own diary, and treat the app's reminders only as a backup.
What goes wrong
- Check the certificate matches the BS 7671 amendment you're working to: the help center still describes A3:2024 forms while the pricing page lists A4:2026 as new.
- Professional is $43£32€38A$61C$60 per user, so each electrician who signs certificates needs their own login.
- The app records your results; it doesn't make the judgment. Codes and observations stay your responsibility as the inspector.
- Automated renewal reminders can fail silently, for example when an email bounces. Keep the date in your own diary and compare the two monthly.
