The problem
Diners ask the same questions through the website and contact form: opening hours, parking, children, dogs, set menus, private dining, how to book. If a restaurant gets 80 a month and each takes 4 minutes to answer, often during service, that's 320 minutes, about 5.3 hours a month.
What the AI does
Tidio is website live chat with an AI agent called Lyro. Its pricing page says Lyro answers from your support content, such as an uploaded FAQ or your website, hands chats to a person, and is sold on its own from 50 AI conversations a month. Write a one-page FAQ from your own records and give it to Lyro, with your booking link. Use its guidance settings to send every allergy, dietary and ingredient question to a person, and test that it does. A trained member of staff answers those from your allergen records, never Lyro.
A worked example
A 50-cover restaurant in Leeds gets about 80 website questions a month. It adds Tidio chat with Lyro trained on a one-page FAQ and its booking link.
Before
80 questions x 4 minutes = 320 minutes, about 5.3 hours a month
After
Lyro answers about 45; 35 go to staff at 4 minutes, plus 20 minutes reading chats: 160 minutes, about 2.7 hours a month
What it's worth
About $64£48€57A$92C$90 a month saved, against about $37£28€33A$54C$53 to $45£34€40A$65C$64 for Lyro. That's 2.7 hours (320 minus 160 = 160 minutes) at an assumed $24£18€21A$35C$34 an hour; 45 answered by Lyro is an assumption. Lyro is €32.50 (about $37£28€33A$54C$53) a month billed annually or €39 (about $45£34€40A$65C$64) monthly for 50 AI conversations; Tidio showed euros on the day checked, so check the price in your currency.
How to set it up
- Write a one-page FAQ: hours, parking, children, dogs, accessibility, set menus, private dining and how to book.
- Install Tidio's chat on your website and give Lyro the FAQ and your booking link.
- Set allergy, dietary and ingredient questions to go to a person, and ask it 10 such questions to check it never answers one itself.
- Read every Lyro conversation for the first month and fix the FAQ where it went wrong.
- Update the FAQ whenever hours, menus or prices change.
What goes wrong
- If Lyro ever answers an allergy or ingredient question itself, switch it off until it's fixed. That information must come from a trained person and your records.
- Lyro answers confidently from out-of-date content; a changed opening time sends diners to a closed door.
- The free plan's 50 Lyro conversations are a one-off; after that you need the paid Lyro plan, and more than 50 a month costs more.
- Chats hold diners' names and contact details, which are personal data. Mention the chat in your privacy notice.
