The problem
After culling, a wedding still needs every image edited for exposure, white balance and your look. At 800 delivered images and 20 seconds each for basic adjustments, that's about 4.4 hours per wedding; at 3 weddings a month in season it's about 13.3 hours.
What the AI does
Aftershoot Edit builds a personal AI profile from your past edits, imported from Lightroom or Capture One; it says you can start with 2,500 edited images and recommends at least 5,000. It applies your style to a new shoot, and you can adjust any profile's sliders such as white balance, tones and exposure. Exports go back to Lightroom, Capture One or Photoshop in one click. Plans are flat-fee with unlimited images, and there's a 30-day free trial with no card needed.
A worked example
A wedding photographer in Devon delivers about 800 images per wedding and shoots 3 weddings a month from May to September. They train an Aftershoot profile on 6,000 edited images from last season and use it for the first pass on every wedding.
Before
800 images at 20 seconds each: about 4.4 hours per wedding, 13.3 hours a month in season
After
If the AI pass leaves 1.5 hours of fine-tuning per wedding: 4.5 hours a month
What it's worth
About $410£308€367A$591C$579 a month saved in season, against about $31£23€27A$44C$43 to $35£26€31A$50C$49 for Aftershoot Edit. About 8.8 hours a month saved (13.3 hours down to 4.5), worth about $410£308€367A$591C$579 at an assumed $47£35€42A$67C$66 an hour, if your profile needs only 1.5 hours of fine-tuning per wedding (an assumption to test in the 30-day trial). Cost: Edit is $30 (about $31£23€27A$44C$43) a month billed annually or $35 (about $35£26€31A$50C$49) monthly; Complete, which adds culling and retouching, is $45 or $55.
How to set it up
- Start the 30-day free trial and import at least 2,500 past edits, ideally 5,000, from Lightroom or Capture One.
- Run the profile on a past wedding you've already edited and compare the results image by image.
- Adjust the profile's sliders where it is consistently off, such as white balance in mixed indoor light.
- Use it for the first pass on a new wedding, then fine-tune and check every image before delivery.
- If you already pay for Aftershoot culling, compare the cost of Complete with the two plans separately.
What goes wrong
- A profile trained on outdoor summer weddings may struggle in a dark church or a winter reception. Train it on a mix of your real work.
- It edits; you still deliver. Check skin tones and any image the couple might print large.
- Paying annually commits you for the year, including the quiet months.
