A Sussex plastics manufacturer adopts AI to process supplier invoices
Nordell, a Worthing plastic moulding firm with over 80 staff, invested £34,000 in AI invoice processing and expects it to save over 60 hours of admin a month.
Nordell added Demi AP, which sits alongside its existing DELMIAWorks ERP system. It reads supplier invoices, checks them against purchase orders and company records, flags discrepancies for review and tracks each invoice from receipt to payment. The £34,000 cost was part-funded by a £17,000 Made Smarter South East grant, after a digital workshop and staff digital champion training.
How it went
Made Smarter reports the company expects more than 60 hours a month of manual admin to be saved, with better invoice accuracy, fewer delays and clearer visibility of spend and cashflow.
Worth knowing
These benefits are forecasts, not measured results. The source is a program case study with an interest in showing success. The cost was heavily helped by a grant that may not be available to you. Flagged discrepancies still need a person to review them.
Try it yourself
Paste into ChatGPT, Claude or another AI assistant and fill in the square brackets.
We process about [number] supplier invoices a month using [accounting or ERP system]. List the checks a person does on each one, such as matching to the purchase order, and suggest which an AI invoice tool could do and which need human sign-off. Estimate the hours involved, showing your assumptions, and show me the plan before anything is set up or paid.
A Brooklyn restaurant owner, also a fractional CFO, used Claude and Python to turn messy invoices and recipes into plate costs. She reports about four hours saved a week.
A real estate show host used an AI assistant to review software subscriptions against usage and reportedly saved about $600 a month. Its inbox triage invented emails.

A Japanese cram school owner built a receipt system: LINE, Gmail and Drive feed one folder, and Claude Code names, categorizes and sorts them daily. No time saving is reported.
