The problem
Exterior painting can't go ahead in rain or on a wet surface, so a bad forecast can wipe out a day for a whole team. If 2 days a month are lost because no indoor job was lined up, at $239£180€214A$346C$338 a day for each of 2 decorators, that's $958£720€857A$1,382C$1,354 of work a month that doesn't happen, with wages paid anyway.
What the AI does
Powered Now's Premium plan has drag and drop scheduling: the whole team's week on one screen, with jobs moved by dragging them. Keep a short list of indoor jobs that can start at short notice, such as a hallway or a spare bedroom for a flexible customer. When rain is forecast, drag the exterior job back, drag an indoor job into its place, and text both customers from the app.
A worked example
A decorating firm in Swansea, the owner and one employed decorator, does a lot of exterior work from April to October. The owner runs the diary in Powered Now Premium ($53£40€48A$77C$75 a month for one user, excluding VAT) and keeps 3 or 4 indoor jobs from flexible customers on standby.
Before
2 rained-off days a month with nothing to move into
After
1 rained-off day a month; the other is filled with an indoor job
What it's worth
About $192£144€171A$276C$271 a month in profit during the exterior season, at an assumed 40% margin on $479£360€428A$691C$677 of work recovered (1 day for 2 decorators at $239£180€214A$346C$338 each). That is against $53£40€48A$77C$75 a month for one Powered Now Premium user.
How to set it up
- Put every booked job into Powered Now's diary with a rough duration.
- Ask indoor customers whether they'd accept a short-notice start in return for an earlier date, and mark them as standby.
- Check the forecast each afternoon for the next two days during the exterior season.
- When rain is due, drag the exterior job back and a standby indoor job into its place.
- Text both customers from the app straight away with their new dates.
What goes wrong
- Drag and drop scheduling is only on Premium ($53£40€48A$77C$75 per user a month); Business and Professional don't include it.
- Standby customers need fair treatment. Move them twice and they'll book someone else.
- A dry morning isn't enough if surfaces are still wet. The diary can't judge that; you still decide on the day.
- Premium is priced per user, so giving the employed decorator a login as well doubles the cost to $106£80€95A$154C$150.
