The problem
When an order goes wrong, some customers post on X before they email. A shop that checks X now and then finds a complaint days later, after others have seen it. If the owner searches X by hand for 15 minutes a day to catch them, that's about 7.5 hours a month (105 minutes a week × 4.3).
What the AI does
Grok searches posts on X live and cites them. Once a day, and after anything goes wrong such as a courier delay or a sold-out launch, the owner asks Grok what people have posted about the shop, its products and its X handle in the last 24 hours, and to list complaints with links. The owner opens each post, replies from the shop's account and moves the conversation to email or direct message to sort the order. Complaints that keep coming up go on a list for fixing.
A worked example
A two-person online shop in Glasgow sells retro gaming accessories, and many of its customers are active on X. The owner runs a Grok check every morning and after each product drop.
Before
15 minutes a day searching X by hand: about 7.5 hours a month
After
About 4 minutes a day to ask Grok and open the linked posts: about 2 hours a month
What it's worth
About $184£138€164A$265C$259 a month in owner time saved, on Grok's free tier. 11 minutes saved a day is about 331 minutes a month (77 × 4.3), about 5.5 hours at an assumed $33£25€30A$48C$47 an hour.
How to set it up
- Use Grok free; move to Plus, €8 (about $9£7€8A$13C$13) a month, if the daily checks hit the free limits.
- Ask about the shop's name, its X handle and its best-known products for the last 24 hours, with complaints listed and linked.
- Open each post and read it in context before replying.
- Reply publicly from the shop's account with a short, polite message and move the details to email or direct message.
- Keep a simple list of repeated complaints, such as late couriers, sizing or packaging, and fix the cause.
What goes wrong
- Grok covers X and the web. Complaints on Instagram, TikTok or review sites need checking there.
- It can miss posts that misspell the shop's name or don't tag it, and confuse the shop with one of a similar name. Search X yourself now and then to compare.
- Never post a customer's order details publicly when replying; take it to a private channel.
- Shops whose customers aren't on X will find little, and for them this isn't worth the time.
