The problem
Listing the same item on a second marketplace by hand doubles the typing. If a reseller adds 80 items a month and copying each to Depop takes 6 minutes, that's 480 minutes, 8 hours a month, and an item sold twice means a canceled order that counts against your eBay record.
What the AI does
Crosslist is a cross-listing tool available in the UK. You create a listing once and post it to the marketplaces it supports; its site names eBay, Depop, Etsy, Facebook Marketplace and Shopify among others. When an item sells, automatic delisting removes it from your other marketplaces, but that is only on the Gold and Diamond plans, so Gold at $39.99 (about $40£30€36A$58C$56) a month is the plan that does this job. It works through each marketplace's own connection where there is one and a browser extension where there isn't. An AI add-on, $4.99 (about $5£4€5A$8C$8) a month, can draft listings and edit photos.
A worked example
A reseller in Sheffield, registered as a business seller, lists second-hand branded clothing and homeware and has about 300 live listings. The owner adds about 80 items a month to eBay and wants them on Depop too, using Crosslist Gold.
Before
About 6 minutes an item copying listings to Depop by hand: 80 x 6 = 480 minutes, 8 hours a month
After
About 1.5 minutes an item checking the cross-listed version: 80 x 1.5 = 120 minutes, 2 hours a month
What it's worth
About 6 hours a month saved (360 minutes), worth around $160£120€143A$230C$226 if your time is worth $27£20€24A$38C$38 an hour, against about $40£30€36A$58C$56 for Crosslist Gold at $39.99 a month. Extra sales from the second marketplace aren't counted. Bronze, $29.99 (about $29£22€26A$42C$41), allows 200 new listings but has no automatic delisting, so it doesn't prevent double sales.
How to set it up
- Check that the marketplaces you want are on Crosslist's list; Vinted isn't named on its site.
- Start on Gold so that sold items are delisted from the other sites automatically.
- Connect your eBay and Depop accounts and install the browser extension if Crosslist asks for it.
- Cross-list 10 items, check each copy for price, size, condition and photos, then do the rest.
- For the first two weeks, check after every sale that the item came off the other site.
What goes wrong
- Without automatic delisting, an item can sell on two sites at once. A canceled eBay order for being out of stock counts against your seller performance.
- Each marketplace has its own rules. Etsy only allows handmade items, craft supplies and vintage, so most second-hand clothing doesn't belong there.
- Delisting through a browser extension depends on your browser and account connection; if a marketplace is disconnected you won't be told unless you check.
- Prices are in US dollars, so the sterling cost moves with the exchange rate, and annual plans carry a $9.99 processing fee.
